The Google Pixel Watch received its first OTA update in December, but that still left some issues to fix. Google has now released the January update for the Watch with a gradual rollout continuing into the next week.

The main bug fix with this release affects third-party watch faces, those used to turn off after 15 minutes, even if Always On Display (AOD) mode was enabled. This issue was apparently limited to older watch faces that didn’t use the new Jetpack Watch Face library. Anyway, this should be fixed now.

The update also includes the January 5th security patch. You should look for the firmware version RWD9.220429.073 (And .J1 for Japan and Taiwan).

One change you won’t find in the official changelog is that the Fall Detection feature has been hidden. This feature isn’t ready and hasn’t been fully tested yet – showing up in the watch menus was a bug. Fall detection should be enabled for real in the coming months.
