First of all, there will be a See-Through view, which allows you to see your surroundings without taking off the headset. It will be accessible by pressing the function button on the headset or by using a tab in the Control Center. This is intended to help you find your way around your real-life room and maybe pick up something (e.g. controllers), there will be no registration option.

This transparent view will also be used to set up the play area. The headset will map your room and you will be able to draw a border using the controller. The system will notify you if you approach the border.

If you have a PS5 HD camera ($ 60) and a green screen, you’ll be able to overlay a live view of yourself as you play, creating a very simple setup for streaming.

Finally, some technical details on how VR and non-VR content will be rendered on PlayStation VR2. In VR mode, content will be rendered at 4,000 x 2,040 px (2,000 x 2,040 px per eye) into a 90 Hz or 120 Hz HDR video format. For comparison, the original PSVR only had 960 x 1,080 px per eye.

Non-VR content, whether it’s regular games or movies, will be displayed on a large virtual screen. The video content will be sent with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 px at 24, 60 or 120 Hz.

Sony is not yet ready to reveal when the PSVR2 will be ready for launch. However, the company concluded its post with “We will be sharing more information soon, including the launch date and other games coming to the platform,” so we’ll just have to be patient.
