Sony today announced the new DualSense Edge controller for the PlayStation 5 controller. It is the most customizable version of a PlayStation controller to date.

DualSense Edge features two new buttons on the back, two function buttons on the bottom, upgraded joystick and trigger buttons, and a ruggedized USB design.

The rear buttons (LB and RB) provide additional functionality that allows for remapping of controls. Buttons can be swapped between lever and half dome models.

The new joysticks on the DualSense Edge are equipped with interchangeable caps, which can be switched between standard, high dome and low dome. The entire joystick module is also replaceable, so if one or both joysticks are damaged, they can be removed and replaced without replacing the entire controller.

User can adjust stick sensitivity and dead zones. You can create profiles with your preset controls and swap them, as well as access other functions such as game volume, chat balance and the controller profile settings menu via the two function buttons attached to the joysticks.

The activation buttons at the top are also adjustable. You can change the stroke and dead zones using the switches on the back. Instead of having a long trigger stroke for each game, you might have a long stroke for a racing game and a short stroke for a shooter.

Sony has also updated the USB-C connector with a locking mechanism that latches on and doesn’t accidentally open.

The remaining differences are aesthetic. The DualSense Edge features a black touchpad with PlayStation icons and a glossy black finish around the sticks. The buttons on the front also have a black background as does the area around the rear buttons.

Aside from that, DualSense Edge is essentially DualSense and includes all the existing DualSense features like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone, motion controls, and more.

DualSense Edge will come with a set of stick caps, rear button set and a modified USB-C cable with locking mechanism and braid. There will also be a carrying case, which can not only house the controller and its accessories as well, but can also charge the controller while inside via USB.

Sony hasn’t provided a price or even a launch date for the DualSense Edge. The company will release more details in the coming months.
