Samsung’s One UI 5.0 based on Android 13 has already shipped to dozens of devices, but the rollout only started a few weeks ago in October. However, according to a new report, Samsung is already testing One UI 5.1, the successor to One UI 5.0.

The One UI 5.1 could in fact debut on the Galaxy S23 family, which if the past rumors are correct should be announced on February 1st. That would certainly be a quick turnover, moving from One UI 5.0 to One UI 5.1 in just a few weeks.

Then again, as the minor increase implies, One UI 5.1 probably won’t be as big an update as its predecessor was. However, Samsung has in the past suggested bringing some new lock screen customization options with One UI 5.1. It may also integrate Android 13’s new media player widget design, which it omitted in One UI 5.0, even though it’s also based on the same version of Android.

Currently the One UI 5.1 update is being tested for Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra, with firmware version S90xEXXU2CVL7 (where the “x” is a different number depending on the model in use). This test firmware has been spotted on Samsung servers and may be released to the S22 family a few days after the launch of the S23 series. That’s how the company usually does things: New devices get dibs on new software, but not for long.
