Samsung today announced its new T5 EVO portable SSD. It is the first portable drive with 8TB capacity and comes with external shock protection.

The T5 EVO is based on USB 3.2 Gen 1 and offers read and write speeds of up to 460 MB/s. The entire disc is 95mm wide, 40mm long and 17mm thick and weighs 102 grams.

The T5 EVO comes in black, with a titanium gray ring that acts as a handle or eyelet for a strap. The body can provide additional protection from drops of up to two meters. Samsung also features Dynamic Thermal Guard technology against overheating, and the portable SSD supports AES data encryption.

Samsung’s T5 EVO portable SSD is available globally and costs $190 for a 2TB option and $350 for the 4TB version, while the world’s first 8TB variant costs $650.
