An intriguing rumor circulated last week that Samsung is working on a more affordable foldable device that will launch next year. That in itself isn’t the interesting thing: it’s what it was said to cost: “$400 to $500.”

It seemed very optimistic from the start, and today Samsung is ruining everyone’s party by basically saying that such a thing won’t happen.

According to a Korean publication, Samsung says it has no plans to produce mid-range foldable smartphones, directly denying the above rumors.

“We have no plans to produce mid-range foldable smartphones and the latest rumors are unfounded,” a Samsung Electronics spokesperson said.

It doesn’t get any cuter and more precise than that, right? So for now it seems that Motorola, with its Razr 40 / Razr 2023, is left playing alone in the “mid-range foldable” space. The Razr 2023 originally launched in the US at $699.99, but now you can get one for just $499.99, and that’s within Samsung’s target price for the mid-range Galaxy Z foldable, which isn’t actually been accomplished.

Now, let’s end on a high note: If you were wondering whether Samsung will launch an FE version of one of its foldables sooner rather than later, Samsung’s own spokesperson had this to say: “There is nothing decided on the matter.” Perhaps this means that there is still time to decide something in the near future.
