Not everyone needs an iPhone Pro, and for those who want a compact yet capable daily driver, the iPhone 15 is the right choice. But the vanilla model has become a bit repetitive in recent years.
The iPhone 15 reinvigorated the form factor in a big way. For starters, it now has a universal port: the USB-C at the bottom opens the iPhone to a world of universal accessories it didn’t have.
The other change concerns the update of the base model. The Dynamic Island gives the 15 a fresh, modern look, not to mention that it’s interactable, unlike the solid block that the old notch was.
Unfortunately the otherwise excellent OLED display is still limited to just 60 Hz, and it’s noticeable. We would have liked to go to at least 90Hz: 60Hz robs you of the fluidity that the A16 Bionic chipset would otherwise easily provide.
The new iPhone 15 looks slim and smooth. Its matte body rejects fingerprints and looks immaculate. Fresh colors make choosing the right iPhone for you a breeze.
The last big upgrade is the 48MP main camera. This allows for a reliable 2x digital zoom option to go alongside its ultrawide and wide. This isn’t as significant as an optical 3x, but it translates into a universal 50mm, which is fantastic, especially for portraits.
