Samsung will be attending this year’s IFA in Berlin, and the company previewed what it plans to unveil at the show. Jae Seung Lee, Head of Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics, revealed in a blog post that the Korean manufacturer is betting on sustainability and energy efficiency in its future products, without naming what they might be.

The executive revealed three key steps that will make Samsung “the # 1 brand for energy efficiency in appliances” – a bold claim that aims to achieve a Net Zero Home.

The first step to achieve the ambitious goal is to implement Wi-Fi connectivity in all new appliances that will be connected to the smart Bespoke Home service. It will have the SmartThings platform at its core to achieve better efficiency and give you more control. In addition, all future Samsung home appliances will have built-in artificial intelligence-based energy saving functions.

The second step is to collaborate with a company that already knows how to be sustainable. In this particular scenario, Samsung is partnering with Patagonia, an eco-conscious clothing brand that is working to remove microplastic from its clothing to prevent chemicals from being emitted into the global ocean.

Patagonia’s experience in clothing and Samsung’s know-how in washing machines should reduce microplastic emissions – this should happen in new products, as well as some existing ones that need to be upgraded to software.

The third step to becoming a conscious conglomerate is to develop a home that can generate its own energy and reduce carbon emissions. This will happen in collaboration with Qcells and SMA and Samsung will implement “a variety of zero-emission projects that can reduce the negative impact on the environment to make the vision of a sustainable future a reality.”

The head of digital appliances paused before revealing details of the washing machines, air conditioners and smart TVs that will be launched next month. Further information will be revealed after the start of IFA 2022 this Friday, September 2nd.
