Innovating every year in the realm of smartphones has never been an easy task. It is probably even more difficult to redesign the interior of a modern folding book and the complex hinge mechanisms. Now rumors have started to circulate about Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold6 phone.

According to industry insider ICE UNIVERSE, we have to lower our expectations regarding the Z Fold6’s main camera. Apparently, Samsung will be reusing the 50MP (1/1.56″, 1.0μm) Samsung GN3 sensor for the main camera. This is the same sensor found in the Z Fold5 and Z Fold4. You need to go back in time on the Z Fold3 to find a different Sony IMX555 12MP main camera.

If this is true, admittedly, it’s a bit of a disappointment, but according to other credible reports from THE ELEC, Samsung may be looking to slim down the Z Fold6 and begin to close the growing gap in thickness between its products and those of its competitors. According to that report, Samsung may reverse engineer Huawei’s foldable Mate X5 to see how the Chinese company achieved both a slimmer profile and a larger internal battery.

For context, the Z Fold5 measures 6.1mm unfolded and 13.4mm folded, while the Mate X5 measures 5.3mm unfolded and 11.1mm folded. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is noticeably thinner, at 5.3mm unfolded and 10.9mm folded. The new OnePlus Open measures 5.8mm open and 11.7mm folded.
