Yesterday, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 received their first One UI 5 beta while the Z Flip3 got the beta no. 2 (with the Z Fold3 expected to follow soon). Samsung is still coming down the list and now it’s the time for the Galaxy Z Fold2 to try out Android 13 and the latest One software.

This will be the last hurray for the 2020 leaflet, which came out with Android 10. It is eligible for 3 OS updates and this will be its third and last (the new generation leaflets have been upgraded to 4 OS updates). There are many updates that the Pixel phones are receiving, and the Z Fold2 will continue to receive security patches: Samsung has committed to supporting it for 4 years, or until the end of 2024.

Back to the beta: It is currently being rolled out for units in South Korea, but is expected to hit other markets soon enough. Note: Both SIM-free phones and operator phones are eligible for upgrade in Korea.

If you want to give it a try (and accept that it probably has bugs), you can use the Samsung Members app to sign up for the beta program. One final warning: installing the beta version is quite simple, stable Android 12 recovery requires a complete wipe, so back up your data before starting.

PS. if you are wondering what is happening with the Z Flip side of the 2020 folds, the original model has recently been updated to One UI 4.1.1, but there is no talk of version 5 yet. However, the Z Flip and Z Flip 5G have the same software support windows (3 OS updates, 4 years of patches), so it should only be a matter of time before the Flips also join the beta program.
