Smaller phones are rare these days, and the Galaxy S23 is one of them. A dying breed, perhaps, on the brink of extinction? Or maybe it’s simply that there isn’t much demand for them, despite what you may have read on the Internet or heard on YouTube. There’s no need to worry, however, because Samsung likes to have a lot of options available to people, so we don’t think it will give up on the “vanilla” S series device anytime soon.
However this phone is definitely not ‘Vanilla’ – in the sense of ‘boring’ or ‘entry-level’. While it doesn’t have a “+” or “Ultra” suffix attached to its name, it’s a true flagship device like any other — if you don’t need the absolute best in camera hardware, that is. It otherwise packs in everything that any other flagship device does, so “vanilla” is a misnomer – we had to say it, so there’s no confusion.
The S23 is also the cheapest of the S23s, so in a strictly financial sense it’s the “entry-level” in Samsung’s flagship lineup. But that doesn’t make it worse than the S23+, for example, it just makes it a better deal and better value for money – if you don’t mind size, of course. If you instead Love considering the size, this is one of the few phones that comes in a more compact form factor and also packs a punch in terms of specs, so that’s it.
We were intrigued enough by the S23 to put it to the test in our long-term review process. As usual, we just used this phone for a long period of time to see what it’s like to live with it day after day, away from spec sheets and lab tests.
