The Chinese giant seems to be preparing to enter another technological niche. You all most likely know Xiaomi for their smartphones and some may be aware of their laptop portfolio, but now it seems that at least a couple of Windows PCs are on the way.

Apparently the two designs were among the items planned for presentation at the Xiaomi event on December 1st. An appointment now postponed due to the disappearance of Jiang Zemin, the former general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. While we wait for a new date to be scheduled, it appears that two PC projects have still been shown a little early to select people.

Let’s start with the more mysterious of the two. The Xiaomi Host Mini PC looks like a small form factor (SFF) design shown in a barebones state. That is to say, the pictured system only has a 100W XM22AL5X PSU installed and nothing else. We doubt Xiaomi will sell it as a barebones kit, so the rest of the hardware that goes in the box has yet to be announced.

What we can glean from the photos include support for what are likely low-profile, half-height to dual-slot dedicated GPUs on a Mini-ITX motherboard. We’re not entirely sure how a dedicated GPU will work alongside the 100W PSU, but perhaps it’s not the last or only unit available in the configuration. The case also has a personalized nameplate on the back with the Windows key and “M” key combination depicted on it. Perhaps Xiaomi is planning to override the key combination in Windows, which typically minimizes all windows and does something custom with it? Another interesting aspect is the mechanical switch mounted on the back of the Host Mini PC. We’re not even sure what it does, but the leaked Weibo photos include an accessory pack with a keycap for said button, so it’s probably functional.

Let’s move on to the other system, about which we know quite a bit more. It’s a mini PC in the Intel NUC’s Mac Mini form factor type. Apparently, it will be running an MD Ryzen 7 6800H APU, a 45W chip with a Radeon 680M RDNA2 iGPU, 16GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD. The price is said to be 3999 CNY or right around $570.
