The 2023 Major League Baseball season starts tomorrow and stadiums are being prepared with new updates to wow fans. The New York Mets teamed up with Samsung to give Citi Field the largest scoreboard of any professional ballpark—it’s over three times the size of the old one.

You know a display is large when it’s measured in square feet instead of inches. The new midfield scoreboard has a floor space of 17,400 sq ft (1,616 m²). There is also an additional 6,900-square-foot (640 m²) display out back, so tall and large that it can be seen from the highway that passes the park.

The midfield scoreboard has a pixel pitch of 10mm (the distance between pixels) and can show 4K clips such as instant replays and player close-ups, as well as game stats, interactive updates, and so on.

While this is the centerpiece and will draw the most attention, the displays throughout the ballpark are refreshed. The work will be completed by opening day April 6 and will include a number of outdoor displays, outdoor signage and even the concession stands will receive digital menu boards.

“Samsung’s innovative technology at Citi Field will raise the bar for what fans expect when they enter the best stadiums in the country. Over a two year period, we transformed a once static signage environment into a fully digital experience. By working with the Mets, we have been able to push the boundaries of what is possible by delivering more creative and unique experiences for their fan base,” said David Phelps, vice president, product management, display division, Samsung Electronics America.
