The latest debacle stems from recent events in Israel where people often see a series of posts containing misinformation, which circulates unchallenged on the social network. Video game footage passed off as breaking news, old videos from Syria are recycled and attributed to this or that attack.
Journalists and researchers say that X is almost useless as a news source because it contains so much misinformation. In some cases, anti-Semitic hate speech and posts glorifying terrorism go unnoticed. Furthermore, Musk himself has repeatedly shared posts from accounts that spread racist content and conspiracy theories.
Those familiar with the matter believe that if Musk blocked Europe, the site’s traffic would drop by about 9%, which would further exacerbate the X’s problems in this regard. Daily usage of the social network has reportedly already dropped by 40% in some regions over the past two months.
