The Honor Magic Vs just premiered and we are lucky enough to have one in our office for testing. Since this is the Chinese unit with unfinalized software, we will focus only on the hardware, but first let’s do an unboxing.

The phone comes with a 66W charger, USB cable, and back panel case.

The Honor Magic Vs is thinner and lighter than its predecessor thanks to a radically improved hinge design. The phone feels similar to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 in hand.

Inside, the Magic Vs has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with up to 12GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is just around the corner, but the Gen 1 is still quite capable, especially in its Plus form.

Both Magic Vs displays are gorgeous. Inside is a 7.9-inch 2272x1984px OLED with 90Hz refresh rate, while on the outside is a 6.45-inch 2560x1080px OLED with a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

The lower internal refresh rate puts the Honor Magic V at a disadvantage compared to its direct rivals, even if the difference between 90Hz and 120Hz is not as drastic as that between 60Hz and 90Hz.

Honor’s foldable has some advantages over its competitors. It has a capable imaging setup, which it borrows from the Honor 70 Pro series. It has a 54MP Sony IMX800 main camera, a 50MP ultrawide unit, and an 8MP 3x telephoto camera. The other key benefit is the 5,000mAh battery, which outperforms both Xiaomi’s foldable and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4.

We will now move on to the actual tests of the Honor Magic Vs as there is a lot to cover.
