Samsung Display introduced the M12 material set for OLED displays last year – it was first used in the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold 4 phones, later featured on the LTPO displays of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Korean publication The Elect now reports that the company is processing sets of materials M13 and M14.

M13 could be used in the mythical Google Pixel Fold – well, let’s say “mythical” jokingly, the phone has been delayed so many times that it’s hard to believe it’s still real. But it’s been spotted in the wild, it’s very real (and maybe it’s coming in June).

And it may have a better display panel than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 since they are expected to stick to the same M12 material set as their predecessors (a material set refers to the composition of the OLED panels). Google’s foldable with better panels is unusual in that the company rarely chooses the latest technology. Also, a few months ago there was talk of a downgrade from the original plans for the display.

DSCC: no ProMotion (120Hz) on vanilla iPhones until 2025

Second The Elect, Apple will order M12-based displays for all four iPhone 15 models. Last year, panels were split between M12 for the Pros and M11 for the vanilla models. That doesn’t mean the base iPhone and plus model will receive ProMotion, however, analysts believe that won’t happen until 2025.

Samsung Display is reportedly developing a custom formulation dubbed M14, which will be used exclusively by Apple for the iPhone 16 generation next year.

As for this year, Samsung Display will build panels for all four iPhone 15 models, LG Display will help with panels for the two Pro models. BOE was dropped from the initial order due to issues.
