The Realme 9 5G is currently an India exclusive. It’s true that it’s pretty hard to keep track of the company’s confusing lineup, but technically it’s sort of a successor to the Realme 8s 5G and the Realme 8 5G before. Although, technically, from a spec standpoint, it somehow sits between the two.
The only major distinguishing factor between the new Realme 9 5G and the Realme 8 5G released over a year ago is the chipset: a MediaTek Dimensity 810 versus a Dimensity 700. A weird and a bit bold choice, considering this one. makes the old Realme 8s 5G technically better. It’s a very similar device to those two too, both physically and in terms of specs, but it takes the main camera to a 64MP drive, has 33W fast charging, and a better chipset on board.

This essentially makes the new Realme 9 5G a “middle” offer between the Realme 8 5G and the Realme 8s 5G. Not quite as major an upgrade as its higher model number might suggest. However, all of this is also reflected in its price. It is located at a competitive INR 15,000 (EUR 183 / $ 192). It may very well be enough to make it as popular a budget pick as its siblings. Furthermore, the Dimensity 810 is a difficult chipset to fit into this kind of tight budget, proving once again that Realme is aggressively pursuing a competitive advantage through the best possible value proposition.
Unpacking
Before we delve into what Realme 9 5G offers, let’s take a look at its retail packaging. While the Realme 9 5G has what is essentially the standard accessory package for a current Realme device, it would technically be considered a packed retail package by modern standards. It ships in a sturdy bright yellow box, which is eye catching and does its job when it comes to protecting its contents.
Speaking of content, in addition to the phone itself, Realme also includes an 18W charger in the box so you can use the full 18W fast charging that the phone is capable of. Next to it is a thick USB Type A to Type C cable. Unfortunately, you have to upgrade to the Realme 9 5G Speed or Realme 8s 5G edition to get the fastest 30W charging.
Realme is also cute enough to put a thick and solid clear TPU protective case in the box. It’s a great little addition that lets you start using your phone right away with no worries.
