Yesterday, Xiaomi finally revealed the official announcement date for the much-leaked 13T and 13T Pro. Both will be revealed at a special event in Berlin, Germany on September 26.

Today, Xiaomi communications director Daniel Desjarlais basically kicked off the official teaser campaign for the upcoming duo by revealing that both will receive four major Android updates and five years of security patches.

This software update promise for the previous generation of the company’s “flagship” series featured three major OS updates and four years of security patches with the 12T and 12T Pro last year, so we’re seeing an update and an increase a year this time.

Xiaomi also matches Samsung with this move, but there are quite important caveats to mention. The Korean company releases monthly security updates for all its high-end devices, while Xiaomi sends one every two months – and there’s no reason to believe that this will change for the 13T and 13T Pro.

Also, the first major update will be Android 14, so these will only be covered up to Android 17. If they had launched a few months later with Android 14 on board and the same update promise, they would have made it to Android 18. That said, It’s great to see more and more Android device manufacturers extending their software support windows, even if only for specific devices like in this case.
