About a month ago, Nothing Phone (1) received its first beta of Nothing Phone (1.5), based on Android 13. Today, the company is shipping the second beta build of Android 13 to enrolled Nothing Phone (1) units to beta testing. This is apparently four days ahead of schedule, according to Nothing CEO Carl Pei.

The new build includes new minimalistic wallpapers, customizable lock screen shortcut buttons, a new “handcrafted glyph ringtone and notification sound pack of a slightly different style”, an improved Quick Settings panel for networking that allows you to quickly switch data usage when using dual SIMs, smoother animations when turning the screen on or off, an improved auto-brightness algorithm, improved Camera app UI and animations, and improved battery life.

System stability should also be increased, and bugs have been fixed liberally, although they are not individually outlined. The full Nothing X app is now integrated into the OS and finally the pop-up view is back with “some interaction improvements”.

The new version arrives over the air with a 127MB download. It’s unclear when the final, stable build of Nothing OS 1.5 will ship to all available devices. Since the cadence of beta updates has been once a month so far, if there is another beta, expect it to fall around mid-February. Nothing definitely seems to be taking its time here.
