Yesterday, Apple held its annual WWDC where it announces updates for iOS and MacOS along with beta programs to allow developers to start testing new features. We’ve already covered some of the changes that will come with iOS 16 in a separate post, but one that Apple hasn’t explicitly mentioned is that the new version of the operating system offers native support for the Nintendo Switch Joy Cons and Nintendo Pro Controller.
Joy Cons are controllers that clip onto a Nintendo Switch handheld console and can be used as a single controller (one in each hand) or as a single controller with more basic controls. As pointed out by the app developer @RileytestutiOS 16 supports one or two Joy Cons via Bluetooth.

I can confirm that they work perfectly with Delta 😍 pic.twitter.com/p8u1sdjvTt

Apple engineer Nat Brown confirms that you can pair two Joy Con controllers and toggle between using both or using one by holding down the Capture and Home buttons on both Joy Cons.
Challenge yourself. Lmk if you run into problems. With both paired, hold the bottom buttons (left “capture”, right “home”) for a few seconds to merge the Joy Cons into one controller and do it again to split them.

Given that iOS 16 is currently in the developer beta stage, there are certainly bugs throughout the operating system. Likewise, some users have already reported bugs when switching from single to combined Joy Cons.
