Motorola will announce the Edge X30 Pro alongside the Razr 2022 next week, August 2nd. As we get closer to that moment, we learn more about the devices – this time around it’s the X30 Pro.
According to Chen Jin, Lenovo’s GM in China’s mobile phone industry, the X30 Pro will be more expensive than the X30, which launched last December. That phone started at CNY 2,999 (around $ 444), but the new X30 Pro won’t be able to match that price.
The culprits are easy to identify: first of all, the X30 Pro is equipped with a 200MP camera, the first on a smartphone, and that sensor is indeed very large (and therefore, probably very expensive). Next, the X30 Pro uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a newer and better chipset than the X30’s 8 Gen 1, but apparently more expensive too.
Hence, due to these components, Motorola, owned by Lenovo, was unable to keep the price below CNY 3,000. Unfortunately the GM hasn’t revealed what exact number we should expect, but next Tuesday it’s not that far anyway and we’ll know then.
Note that it has long been rumored that the Edge X30 Pro will launch outside of China at a later date, renamed the Edge 30 Ultra. Of course, that should also be more expensive than the Edge 30 Pro which was a renamed Edge X30.
Other specifications of the Edge X30 Pro (and therefore the Edge 30 Ultra) include a 6.67-inch 144Hz curved OLED screen, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 12MP 2x zoom vertical camera, a selfie cam 60MP, 8 / 12GB of RAM, 128 / 256GB of storage and support for 125W wired fast charging for its 4,500mAh battery.
