Towards the end of last year, Xiaomi refreshed the Mi 11 Lite 5G by launching the 11 Lite 5G NE, a virtually identical smartphone with a different chipset. In 2022, apparently, there will also be an NE model for the Lite series, but this will have more differences.

According to a Chinese source, the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE was spotted in an IMEI database, which revealed its existence and model number, i.e. 2210129SG. The “G” at the end means that this is a device that will serve the global market, not the Chinese one.

Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE is coming as Civi 2 renamed for international markets

And that makes perfect sense when you consider the fact that it is said to be a renamed Civi 2. That phone is already on sale in China, so it would make sense that the renamed model is only found elsewhere.

The Xiaomi Civi 2 has a different chipset than the original 12 Lite: the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which should be more performing than the Snapdragon 778G. It also has a different main camera, with a resolution of 50MP and not 108MP, and a 20MP ultrawide sensor instead of the 8MP sensor mounted on the existing Lite. While the selfie cam itself appears to be the same, the Civi 2 comes with an additional ultrawide sensor and dual-LED flash. The battery is also slightly more robust with 4,500mAh versus 4,300mAh, while all other specs are, if not identical, incredibly similar.

Interestingly, the 2210129SG was already certified by the FCC in September, so its launch may be closer than you think. From the FCC process we found that the 12 Lite 5G NE will have three configurations: 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, 8/128GB and 8/256GB.
