Motorola today announced a trio of new Edge 30 series phones and we had the chance to spend some time with the Motorola Edge 30 Neo. Here are our first impressions.

The phone is light in the hand, which is not a bad thing. Despite being made of plastic, the Moto Edge 30 Neo is solid and the back has a nice frosted coating that avoids stains. The back also tapers at the sides which helps with the feeling in the hand.

Edge 30 Neo is the first phone to benefit from the new partnership between Motorola and Pantone and is available in four color options: Aqua Foam, Ice Palace, Black Onyx and Veri Peri. The latter is the Pantone color of the year 2022 and stands out from the rest with its vibrant purple hue.

The 6.28-inch OLED screen is quite manageable even with one hand, and the 120Hz refresh rate helps the UI and apps feel snappy. The right side has the power and volume keys while the left contains no buttons or cutouts. There is a single speaker at the bottom next to the USB-C port and SIM slot.

Edge 30 Neo uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset and you get 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of storage. This mid-range chip has proven itself over time and we can expect solid performance in everyday tasks.

The rear features a 64MP main cam with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide module – a fairly straightforward camera setup for 2022. We’ll be sure to test how it fares in our full review.

Another cool feature is the LED ring around the camera island that alerts you to incoming notifications. There is a 32MP front module for selfies housed in a perforated hole in the display.

The software interface is MyUX on Android 12 which looks and feels like any other Motorola phone from last year. Motorola has chosen a 4,020mAh battery with 68W wired charging and also onboard wireless charging.

This is all we have for today. We hope to get a unit in the office soon so that we can give the Edge 30 Neo the full review treatment.
