introduction

Motorola has a pretty solid lineup of phones lately. A few weeks ago, the mobile phone legend unveiled the X30 Pro and S30 Pro in China. The “series 30”, for lack of a better name, has now started to be released globally under slightly different names. And one of the first versions is the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion, the global market variant of the Moto S30 Pro.

Despite its rather convoluted name, the Edge 30 Fusion is pretty clear on what it offers. On paper, he’s nothing short of an all-around upper-middle-range ranger, or maybe even “budget flagship”, if he’s more up to the task than you. It has a great 10-bit OLED display, HDR10 +, 144Hz front and center, a powerful Dolby Atmos stereo speaker setup, a former flagship Snapdragon 888+ chipset, a 4,400mAh battery with 68W charging and a main camera 50MP OIS enabled, supported by a 32MP selfie with autofocus.

There is a lot to like here, at least on paper. Furthermore, the Edge 30 Fusion is undoubtedly a charmer on the outside. It sports a very sleek exterior, complete with simple but firm lines, lots of curves on both the large display and the back, where the faux leather finish really brings the whole design together. The Edge 30 Fusion looks very elegant and dignified, like something you’d see hanging on a boardroom table.

However, looking good in person and on paper is only half the battle, and even at first glance, the Moto Edge 30 Fusion isn’t perfect and has a few omissions here and there. The big question is how well it all comes together. Join us on the following pages as we dive deeper to find out.

First of all, though, let’s explore the retail package.

Unpacking

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion ships in a thick and sturdy two-piece box. It does a great job of keeping everything in place and protecting it during transit, even in the absence of plastic on the outside. The box is obviously made with recycled materials. Motorola has even decided to leave its natural color or opt for a natural looking dye to better convey this sense of eco-friendly approach. The words “green packaging” are glued in large letters on the side of the box, so there is a clear sense of pride in it.

The Edge 30 Fusion has a pretty rich sales package. It includes a surprisingly compact 68W PD charger along with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable. There is also a nice thick clear TPU case in the box, so you can start using your phone immediately without worry. The factory pre-applied plastic screen protector also helps in this regard.
