Realme is a leader in smartphone charging technology: in 2022 it was the first to introduce a phone capable of 150W, followed this year by the first 240W phone. But these high-end triumphs should not overshadow the work the company is doing to bring fast charging to the masses.
The goal for 2023 is for at least 90% of Realme models available globally to support charging at speeds of 33W or higher. The company has already hit that milestone in the $250 to $399 segment, but that will also cover more affordable phones.
According to Counterpoint stats, Realme is still the only company to have launched a phone with 65W charging in the $100 to $149 price range (it was the Narzo 20 Pro in 2020). And it is currently the leader in this price segment with 85% of its phones in 2022 supporting fast charging. However, the 85% stat is with a generous definition of “fast charging”: Counterpoint drew the line at 10W.
It’s not that fast, is it? Realme’s new pledge will bring the idle to 33W for all but the lowest-end devices.
