One of the main features of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the new periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. The new 120mm equivalent lens features an innovative tetraprism design with a bright f/2.8 aperture and 1.12µm pixels behind a 12MP sensor. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the periscope sensor will arrive on the smaller iPhone 16 Pro next year bringing parity with the Pro Max model.

According to Kuo, Apple is facing challenges with the production of the iPhone 15 Pro Max largely due to rising manufacturing costs and low yield rates associated with the new zoom lens supplied exclusively by Largan Precision Co. Based on recent reports , iPhone 15 Pro Max is in high demand, which could lead to significantly longer wait times than last year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max. Kuo expects the iPhone 15 series to reach 80 million shipments by the end of the year.
