The Project Cambria VR headset that Meta teased and turned on will be sold as “Meta Quest Pro”, making it clear that it is a more advanced device than the current Quest 2. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the headset will be unveiled in October (so far we only have short video demos with the pixelated headset).

However, a certain Ramiro Cardenas posted a video of an engineering champion of the Quest Pro, showing the design and new controllers.

The headset has three color cameras on the front, which will allow the color to pass. This will be an advantage for AR applications. It also helps that they are pointed forward, while Quest cameras are intended for motion detection first, then AR (that’s why they’re black and white too). The headset itself feels much thinner than the Quest 2, suggesting it uses a new optics. This should make it more comfortable to wear.

As for the controllers, the big ring of the old controllers has disappeared, making the new ones noticeably more compact. Aside from that, they appear to have the same hardware controls on board.

The Meta Quest Pro will launch this year, but the company has shown several advanced prototypes used in the development of the next generation of VR headsets. Meta will eventually split its offerings into lines of enthusiasts and professionals.
