Xiaomi announced the Poco F4 along with the X4 GT and, just as the rumors predicted, it is the global variant of a Redmi phone: Redmi K40S. We received the simpler paint job of the Poco F4 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and are now starting the review process.

The retail package comes with a screen protector that you need to apply yourself and a clear protective case. A 67W charger is also included, which promises to fill the 4,500mAh battery in under 40 minutes – we’ll know for sure once we’re done with our tests.

The Snapdragon 870 chipset is over a year old, and while we don’t expect many to be unhappy, there are no upgrades over what the Poco F3 has. Another victim of supply chain problems, we assume.

The screen is a 6.67-inch AMOLED display – Xiaomi has decided to play it safe as it is one of its most popular panels. We can see it on no less than 40 devices of all the sub-brands introduced in the last twelve months, but above all it is the same on the Poco F3. The selfie camera in the hole is also apparently unchanged with its 20MP sensor.

For some reason, Xiaomi has decided to replace the 5MP macro sensor on the back with a 2MP one, but on the upside the main camera is now equipped with a 64MP sensor and OIS. The ultrawide camera is another thing brought back by the predecessor.

Also, the software has improved. The Poco F4 ships with MIUI 13 on Android 12, and Xiaomi has promised three major OS updates, making this device a solid choice for the future.

The Poco F4 is an update of the Poco F3 and, if it maintains solid performance and exceptional battery life, it could be a smartphone to recommend. We’ll know for sure when the review is complete, so stay tuned!
