A new Fairphone is on the horizon, it’s about to replace the Fairphone 4, which will be two years old in September. Images that would have been created by the company itself before being “borrowed” by someone with whom it shared them Android Authority.
The broad strokes are the same with rounded sides and a triangular camera island on the back. And while we don’t have anything in the way of specs yet, it’s clear that the display has been the focal point of the updates.

The first thing to note is that the front-facing camera now sits inside a small hole instead of the old mark 4’s notch. Even better, the bezels are slimmer, a much-needed change, despite only having a 6-inch display. .3″, the Fairphone 4 was the same size as the Galaxy S21+.
The fingerprint reader is still mounted on the side, suggesting we’re looking at another LCD, although its size and resolution are unknown.

Going to the rear, the camera island is mostly the same, aside from changes to the shape of the LED flash. There are still only two camera modules, plus a TOF 3D sensor. The most interesting part is the one behind the back panel.
Fairphone is ahead of the EU’s 2027 target and has user-replaceable batteries right now. The Fairphone 5 will also have one (capacity unknown) and while the company has relocated the SIM and microSD slots, they’re still blocked by the battery, so hot swapping isn’t possible.
Here’s an exploded view of the new model compared to 2021. We don’t see a coil for wireless charging (even the 4 didn’t have one), and the headphone jack isn’t making a comeback.

Notice anything else? Fairphone is going to step on Nothing’s toes a bit with a transparent phone version of him. While there are no LEDs (none that we can see, anyway), that’s a much cooler look than the 4’s trademark Speckled Green as far as we’re concerned.

Fairphone hasn’t yet set an official date for its next smartphone, but it should be soon if this is the final design.
