Huawei had a big announcement today in China, introducing the midrange nova 11 to the local crowd. For the first time, a nova event featured three devices: vanilla nova 11, nova 11 Pro, and nova 11 Ultra, all sporting a signature green paint job.
The trio have one key specification in common: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset. All three have 5G disabled, meaning the sleek new midranges are LTE-only smartphones.

The difference between these two phones is only one: the Ultra has two-way satellite messaging via Beidou, China’s satellite navigation system, which means a higher price. Apart from that, it shares features and specifications with Pro.
The screen is a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sample rate of 300Hz. The resolution is listed as “Full HD+”, but is actually denser: 2652 x 1200 pixels. The panel has a Kunlun glass protector on top and its sides are 2.5D curved. There is a pill-shaped hole in the upper left corner for the dual selfie cameras.
As for the cameras, the front ones are 60 MP main with 100-degree FoV + 8 MP with 2x optical zoom for portraits. There are three cameras on the back, but Huawei has only listed the main two: 50 MP with two aperture settings: f/1.4 or f/4.0 and RYYB sensor and laser AF. The second is an 8MP ultra wide angle, while the third is said to be a “ten-channel color temperature sensor”.
The battery of Huawei nova 11 Pro & Ultra is 4,500 mAh with 100W fast charging and the adapter is provided in the retail box. Other features include HarmonyOS 3.0 and fancy colors, two of which are vegan leather: green and black, while the other two, white and gold, are glass and for some reason limited to the Pro.

Huawei has stopped announcing RAM in its phones, so until we get our hands on the devices, we can only report that the storage options of nova 11 Pro are 256/512GB, while nova 11 Ultra only comes with 512GB .
Prices for the nova 11 Pro start at CNY 3,499 ($510), but without the Kunlun glass – the extra protection costs CNY 200 ($30) more. Double the storage costs CNY 3,999 ($582) but no fancy glass on top. The nova 11 Ultra costs CNY 4,499 ($655), which is CNY 500 ($70) more just for the extra glass and satellite messaging.

The nova 11 might be the least impressive of the trio, but it still has plenty of intriguing specs. The screen remains a 10-bit AMOLED with all the fast refresh rate, but now has a diagonal of 6.7 inches and is flat.
Huawei has decided to keep some of the lovely cameras too – the 50MP + 8MP + temperature sensor on the back is still here. In contrast, the selfie camera is one and behind a centered hole; at least it’s still the 60MP with 100-degree FoV and 4K video recording.
The battery capacity has not changed and remains at 4,500 mAh, but here charging is limited to 66W. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 with BLE, while the user interface is HarmonyOS 3.0 – nothing surprising here.
The colors are again green, black, white and gold, but all are under plastic glass. Prices are CNY 2,499 ($363) for the 128GB version and CNY 2,799 ($410) for the 256GB one. Putting a Kunlun glass on top costs an extra 200 CNY ($30) (only for the most expensive option). There’s also a version, available only in green or black, with 512GB of storage and protective glass for CNY 3,399 ($495).
Pre-orders for all phones are open in China. The first sale is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 26, at exactly 10:08 am local time.
