Huawei Mate Xs 2 announced with SD888 4G and stylus support, MatePad SE is accompanied by tags

Huawei believes there is a market for external foldable phones, and its newly announced Mate Xs 2 is its latest attempt. The Huawei Mate Xs 2, a direct successor to the 2020 Mate Xs, features a slight redesign and improved specs.

The OLED display is spread over a 7.8-inch diagonal with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. When folded at the back, the screen shrinks to 6.5 inches more manageable with a resolution of 2480 x 1176 px. You also get a 10MP selfie cam hidden in the top right corner. Despite the large form factor, the Mate Xs 2 comes in at 255 grams, a notable improvement over the Mate Xs which tipped the scales to 300 grams.

The Mate Xs 2 offers a refined dual rotor hinge mechanism that is advertised to improve long-term durability and also leaves no visible creases on the display.

Huawei also praises the increased durability of the polymer-coated display thanks to a new four-layer construction. The Mate Xs 2 supports Huawei’s M-Pen 2s stylus so you can jot down notes or scribbles on your tablet-sized phone.

Like the Mate X and Mate Xs, Huawei has opted for a triple camera array on the Mate Xs 2. There’s a 50MP main cam, a 13MP ultrawide snapper, and an 8MP telephoto module with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital and OIS.

The foldable is powered by the Snapdragon 888 4G chipset with 8/12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of built-in storage. The Mate Xs 2 boasts a 4880mAh battery with 66W fast charging and launches Huawei’s HarmonyOS 2.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 is available in white, black and purple colors. It starts at CNY 9,999 ($ ​​1,512) for the 8/256 GB version and goes up to CNY 12,999 ($ ​​1,966) for the 12/512 GB model. Open sales in China are scheduled for May 6.

In addition to the Mate Xs 2, Huawei has announced a new budget tablet called the MatePad SE. The tablet is equipped with a 10.1-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px and Huawei’s Kirin 710A chipset. You get a 2MP selfie cam and 5MP rear shooter. HarmonyOS 2 covers the software side while the battery has a capacity of 5,100mAh and supports charging at 10W.
