Honor has presented the Honor X8 5G smartphone rather quietly, which is expected to be the 5G version of the Honor X8 already released since March of this year. However, there’s more to it than just added support for 5G connectivity.

Honor X8 5G announced with SD 480+ and 48MP main camera

For starters, the new X8 5G has a smaller 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 720 x 1600px. The Snapdragon 680 SoC has been replaced with a Snapdragon 480+, which is strangely a more powerful alternative, despite its older manufacturing process and lower clock speeds. Memory options are limited to just one: 6GB / 128GB.

Honor had to cut a few corners to keep the price down, so the 64MP main camera was replaced with a 48MP f / 1.8 and there’s no more 5MP ultrawide shooter. Now the X8 5G only has a 2MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie was also downgraded to 8 MP f / 2.0.
