As you may already know, Google releases its monthly Android updates for its supported Pixel phones on the first Monday of the month (unless it’s a US vacation). Since it’s the first Monday of the month, there is obviously a new update, aimed at Pixel 4 and later devices.

Speaking of the Pixel 4, this should be the end of the line, both for it and for the Pixel 4 XL. According to Google’s update schedule, this is the last guarantee these two will ever have, so if you’re still holding one, maybe it’s finally time to update – and you wouldn’t know, the company is releasing a new generation of Pixel this month! You talk about perfect timing, right?

Google's October Android update is on its way, possibly the latest for the Pixel 4 and 4 XL

That said, be aware that Google may actually be rolling out another final update to these phones in the coming weeks – it has been known to have done something similar in the past.

The October update brings with it a couple of audio-related fixes (one for an issue causing noise artifacts when calling on wired headphones, another for the volume controls in a media player notification not working ), as well as a solution for an issue that resulted in Wi-Fi networks not visible in the network selection menu.

A crash in the launcher when connecting to the VPN was also fixed, as well as problems with widget compatibility, as well as a crash when playing audio from local storage, a bug that caused Quick Settings panes to appear empty and one that created the work profile the toggle button appears truncated in the app drawer.

As usual with Google updates, it may take days, if not weeks, for all devices out there to get this update. The new build number is TP1A.221005.002 for all phones except Pixel 6a, which gets TP1A.221005.003.
