We now have the first detailed specs of Google’s upcoming Tensor G3 chipset which will premiere in the Pixel 8 series this fall. The chipset will be built on Samsung Foundry’s new 4nm process (4LPP) and will feature a nine-core CPU and a ten-core GPU.

CPU-wise, the Tensor G3 will include a single Cortex-X3 clocked at up to 3GHz, four Cortex-A715 cores clocked up to 2.45GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at up to 2.15GHz. In contrast, the Tensor G2 has two Cortex-X1, two Cortex-A78, and four Cortex-A55 cores, for a total of eight cores, one fewer than the G3.

Google's G3 tensor specs and over the counter leaks shed some light on the Exynos 2400

On the GPU side, the Tensor G3 uses ARM’s latest GPU design: ten Immortalis-G715s clocked at up to 890 MHz. The new hardware is capable of hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and in combination with Samsung MFC (Multi -Format Codec), 8K encoding and decoding up to 30 fps in both h.264 and HEVC formats.

This is where Google’s upcoming Tensor G3 can shed some light on Samsung’s long-awaited return to making high-end mobile chips for its phones in the Exynos 2400. The Exynos 2400 could use a nine- or even ten-core CPU similar to the G3 but carry an updated, AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse GPU with four times the cores. GPU advances would allow the Exynos 2400 to add 4K 120fps encoding and decoding, as well as 8K 30fps.

The Exynos 2400 could also boost the Tensor G3 with UFS 4.0 storage support, LPDDR5X RAM, and a faster modem.

Let’s go back to the G3 Tensor. The chipset is apparently already being tested for this Geekbench 5 test score. It confirms the 4+4+1 CPU configuration.
