Android 14 has been in beta for many months now, and Google initially led us to believe that the final, stable version would come out in August, just like what happened last year with Android 13. But that’s not the case, as more betas were added to the release cycle, at which point pretty much everyone in the tech world assumed the stable release would arrive in September.

WELL, about this. Yesterday was Labor Day in the US and that means a Google software update should be released today (they are generally released on the first Monday of every month unless it is a public holiday in the US, like yesterday, on which case they are delayed until the next day). But it may not be Android 14. Google is now said to have delayed the stable release to October, at the last minute.

As you can see, the release is scheduled for October 4, which incidentally is the date of Google’s next big hardware announcement, when it is expected to fully unveil the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2. create a rather unprecedented situation: Google’s new releases usually launch at least a month, if not two, before new hardware.

It’s not entirely clear why this delay occurred, but things haven’t been going well in the Android 14 world for a few weeks now – we suspected something was wrong when Google hastily released a fifth beta, never expected before. Now it appears that whatever the underlying problem is, it still hasn’t been fully addressed (or resolved).

Apparently, even Google’s phone-making partners thought the release would arrive today, which is why some of them, thinking of OnePlus, even announced their own stable versions of Android 14 coming at the end of this month. We’re not sure what will happen to that promise now.

Of course, this is just a rumor and Google still has time to deny it by releasing Android 14 before October 4th. Let’s see what happens.
