Less than two days before Google was to announce the new hardware, it downloaded some announcements leading up to the launch event hours on Thursday morning. Google outlines new UI changes and features coming to the Google Home app, as well as two new Nest hardware products, including a new doorbell and a new Nest Wi-Fi model.
second generation wired intercom
Google’s wired Nest Doorbell is updated. It now has a 3: 4 aspect ratio with a resolution of 960 x 1280 px, making it easier to see if there’s a package at the door. The sensor supports HDR capture and a 145 degree field of view. Google claims the second generation wired Nest doorbell has “the sharpest picture ever”.
It features the same design as its predecessor, but with a 30% smaller footprint. Because it’s wired, it’s capable of saving 24-hour continuous footage up to 10 days with a Nest Aware Plus subscription. It has processed video on the device for quicker alerts when a person, pet, or package is around.
The second-generation wired Nest doorbell will retail for $ 179 and is available for purchase now.
Google Nest Wifi Pro
Google has an updated mesh Wi-Fi system with support for the latest Wi-Fi 6E protocol. It loses smart speaker integration and cannot integrate with older Nest Wi-Fi models. If you already have Nest Wi-Fi nodes, nest Wi-Fi Pro won’t work with them.

The Nest Wifi Pro can produce combined speeds of up to 5.4Gbps and will cover up to 2,200 square feet per router.
The Nest Wifi Pro will be available starting October 27 and will cost $ 199 for a single router or $ 399 for a router and two node package.
Google Home app redesign
The Google Home app is updating and Google has already outlined the changes. The new UI of the app will be launched “in the next few weeks”.
The Google Home app will have a new five-tab layout: Favorites: allows you to pin your most used smart devices, Devices: shows all the devices in your home, Automations: a more complete view of “Routines”, Activities: shows the recent activity of smart cameras or doorbells and Settings.
The Google Home app has always organized smart devices by room, but a new organization tool called “Spaces” will allow you to group devices into different rooms in the house.
Google Home apps will soon be available on Wear OS and web browsers, so you can finally view camera feeds via a computer. Google also promises a script editor that allows anyone to program automations themselves. Google says we can expect this to arrive in 2023.
Now let’s talk about access. The Google Home app is coming to Wear OS and the web soon.
