Counterpoint Research has published an interesting analysis of the Chinese smartphone market. Putting together the numbers from the first two weeks of the year shows that Huawei has shipped more devices than anyone else, effectively making it the best-selling company currently.

According to the report, the three reasons for Huawei’s success were sales of the Mate 60 with Kirin 9000 chipset developed in China, brand loyalty among consumers, and the rapid advancement of the in-house Harmony OS 4.0.

Counterpoint: Huawei begins 2024 as the best-selling smartphone company in China

Counterpoint Research usually offers a look at a particular smartphone market over a broader time frame, so we’ll see if the trend extends to the entire quarter. However, the data doesn’t lie: Huawei is really getting back on track. The company launched the Nova 12 series in December, which probably also contributed to the increase in sales.

All three Huawei nova 12 phones – Vanilla, Pro and Ultra – have the Kirin 9000S chipset, built by SMIC with 7nm process technology. The company’s official policy is not to comment on the SoC situation. However, a report has revealed that Huawei is receiving a massive push from the state government to become a chip tycoon, which will inevitably help boost smartphone sales even more in the future.
