CyberMedia Research (CMR) released a quarterly analysis of the tablet market in India and the third quarter results revealed good increases across all price segments. 5G tablet sales were up 61% QoQ, Wi-Fi tablet sales were up 41% over the same period, while 4G slates were up “only” 9%.

Samsung, Lenovo and Apple are the undisputed market leaders, with the top 3 companies selling three out of four tablets in the last quarter.

CMR: 5G tablet sales increase in India, Samsung takes first place in Q3 '22

According to CMR analysts, the increase in 5G tablet shipments is being driven by the onset of the 5G era in India and the growth is similar to the trends seen in the smartphone market. However, the best-selling devices from Samsung, Lenovo, and Apple were predominantly Wi-Fi-only budget models.

The Galaxy Tab A8 and Tab A7 Lite were Samsung’s best-selling devices. Half of Lenovo’s sales were for Tab M8 (HD) models, with and without LTE capabilities. Apple mainly sold the Wi-Fi version of the 9th generation iPad which is the 10.2 (2021) model.

CMR analysts predict that consumer and business demand for hybrid work will be the main driver towards a record 10-15% growth in 2022. Manufacturers rely on attractive offers and aggressive discounts, which is easier for larger manufacturers such as Samsung and Lenovo, allowing them to consolidate their top positions.
