Rugged phone maker Bullitt, which owns the likes of Cat, Kodak and Land Rover smartphone brands, is poking fun at a new device capable of satellite connectivity. The British company has a teaser page on its website where interested users can sign up for updates.

Bullitt anticipates an upcoming phone with satellite connectivity

Bullitt co-founder Richard Wharton confirmed in a BBC article, that the device would feature a seamless transition between Wi-Fi, cellular and satellite connectivity. If users cannot access the first two wireless connections, the phone will automatically connect to one of the two global satellite networks for text messaging only. This feature will allow Bullitt’s next phone to send SMS messages around the world in dead zones with no coverage, although users with non-Bullitt smartphones will need to download a Bullitt app to read and receive these messages.

The Bullitt phone user will also have to pay a monthly subscription fee for the satellite service. Bullitt’s satellite-connected smartphone is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2023, which means we could realistically see the device debut at the MWC in Barcelona in February. Bullitt also confirmed that the upcoming device is using a custom chipset even though we don’t have any model or manufacturer details.
