Apple has been working on its own 5G modem for some time and has yet to launch an iPhone with the 5G chip inside. The brand currently relies on Qualcomm and popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed previous reports claiming that it will not change for the next two years as Apple is expected to switch to its in-house 5G chips starting in 2025.
This means that the upcoming iPhone 15 and next year’s iPhone 16 line will use Qualcomm’s 5G modems, with the iPhone 17 potentially being the first iPhone to use Apple’s internally developed 5G modem. We’ve also heard about the iPhone SE 4, reportedly delayed until 2025, which uses Apple’s in-house 5G chip.

There are no details on Apple’s 5G modems, so it’s unclear what kind of improvements and advantages it will bring to iPhones over Qualcomm’s 5G chips.
Earlier this year, we heard that Apple was considering using its own wireless chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity in iPhones, with the first iPhone to use Apple’s in-house wireless chip arriving in 2025 .
The tech giant is also reportedly considering combining wireless and cellular chips to save manufacturing costs and improve energy efficiency.
