Apple has announced it is investing 1 billion euros in a new silicon design center after spending as much on its new research and development center in Munich two years ago. In fact, the new facility is being treated as an extension of the existing one as it will be located just across the street.

Apple wants to bring together 2,000 of its engineers in one place, so they can work more efficiently with cutting-edge equipment. Efforts will go into the development of custom designs in silicon, power management chips, and future wireless technologies. The main objective is to improve the performance, efficiency and energy saving of Apple devices.
With so much money floating around, Apple was bound to announce a huge investment like this, and we suspect there will be more to come in the near future. Over the past five years, Apple has spent over 18 billion euros with more than 800 German companies and has provided numerous jobs in the country.
