So far the Apple Vision Pro is limited to the US, but it is obviously inevitable that it will launch in other countries too. And one of them will be China, according to a new local media report.

The headphones will be available there no earlier than April or May at the latest. The information supposedly comes from anonymous “supply chain sources”, so take it with a grain of salt. Not too much, though, because Apple CEO Tim Cook himself said that the Vision Pro will arrive “soon” in China when the headphones release in New York earlier this month.

Confusingly, the headset may not be branded Vision Pro in China, but Apple may instead reuse the Reality brand due to an ongoing Vision Pro trademark dispute. Huawei applied for the Vision Pro trademark in China on May 16, 2019, and has received a ten-year exclusive use period from November 28, 2021 to November 27, 2031.

The same source states that the official certification of the headphones for sale in China is almost complete: when it will be completed, we will know since the databases are public. An interesting tidbit is that the Vision Pro’s BOM is estimated to be around $1,700, so about half its retail price.

Now for the bad news. Availability is said to be quite limited, especially for the first batch of units that will go on sale in China. Hopefully subsequent batches will contain more units, we’ll have to wait and see.
