AMD today announced the Radeon RX 7900 GRE desktop graphics. Although announced first in China, it seems the card will also be available globally.

The RX 7900 GRE (which stands for Golden Rabbit Edition) is a cut-down version of the RX 7900 XT with some minor reductions to the GPU and significant reductions to the memory.

Compared to the 7900 XT’s 84 compute units, the 7900 GRE has 80. The game clock drops from 2000MHz to 1880MHz. The 20GB 20Gbps 320-bit memory drops down to 16GB 18Gbps 256-bit, which causes the memory bandwidth to drop from 800GB/s to 576GB/s. The Infinity Cache has also been reduced from 80MB to 64MB. The board power has been reduced from 315W to 260W.

AMD positions the 7900 GRE more as a 1440p card instead of 4K. The company’s marketing material also pits it as a successor to the 6800 XT with the two being directly compared. This means it should have similar performance to the RTX 4070.

The product went on sale in China on July 28 but there is no word on when it will be available globally and whether it will have the same name.
