A leaked training video from MSI has revealed information about the upcoming 14th Generation Intel Core processors. The video has since been covered up, but not before relevant information had already been located and shared.

The relevant slide in the video compares Intel’s current Core i3-13600K, Core i7-13700K and Core i9-13900K with the next generation Core i3-14600K, Core i7-14700K and Core i9-14900K. While the i3 and i9 models keep the core configuration, the i7 model gets four additional E-cores.

According to MSI, this translates into a 17% improvement in the i7’s average performance in multithreaded applications. However, things are far less impressive for the other parts, which more or less only experience a slight clock boost. This, according to MSI, will result in an average performance increase of around 3% over the previous generation. These numbers are in line with previous leaked benchmark results.

The reason for this is now known, as Intel 14th Generation, also known as Raptor Lake-S Refresh, is simply 13th Generation Raptor Lake-S architecture with clock speed boost and, in some cases, E-counts cores and caches. As a benefit, the 14th generation chips will be compatible with current motherboards with 600 and 700 series chipsets that support existing 12th and 13th generation parts.

While not mentioned in MSI’s leak, the new parts should also likely carry Intel’s new branding, which will see these parts be called Core 5, Core 7 and Core 9, eschewing the current “i” branding.

Intel is expected to announce these new parts at its event, ironically called Innovation 2023, in September.
