Released in June 2019 for PlayStation 4, Judgment tells the story of a hard-working lawyer turned private investigator. He becomes embroiled in a Yakuza conspiracy that quickly puts him in dangerous and desperate situations.

You definitely get your money’s worth from Judgment. This is due to a cast of fantastic characters, an intriguing story, and all the secondary content you can handle in a game. However, some aspects of the gameplay don’t feel as fresh or fun as other instances within the title.

Kamurocho’s new tone

Fans of the Yakuza series may be familiar with Kamurocho’s setting. This is also where Judgment takes place, solidifying the game as a spin-off. However, Judgment ultimately feels very different from a Yakuza game. Although it shares many similarities.

For example, Kamurocho is still a very lively place. The streets are littered with many NPCs making their day. As you pass these nameless entities, you get the feeling that the city is alive. This is also supported by capturing characters you know roaming the streets.

Kamurocho looks very familiar to a Yakuza fan, but quite different. This makes the title an interesting opportunity to see the fictional city from a new perspective.
