I can’t imagine Luigi enjoying exploring the haunted houses of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. But this game has personally possessed me with joy!
Released in 2013, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (aka Luigi’s Mansion 2) is the sequel to the 2001 original. The infectious presentation and gripping ghost-catching gameplay give Dark Moon the spooky charm of Nintendo.
Some frustrating design choices keep Dark Moon from standing alongside the best games ever in the 3DS. However, this silly spin-off series continues to show why we need to treat Mario’s younger brother with more respect. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon proves that green really can be gold.

Much of the personality that radiates from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon derives from its titular protagonist. Luigi might seem like one of the most unlikely and reluctant heroes in Nintendo’s mascot room. But Professor E. Gadd knows exactly who to call after the Dark Moon shattered and the peaceful ghosts of Evershade Valley have started wreaking havoc.
Luigi’s nervous, ambiguous looks and the anxious hum of the themed music are captivating little details of the character. They made me sympathize and laugh at his many misfortunes. Everything from his hasty running animation to his terrified expressions made me smile. And they make sure this ghoul and ghost-filled game never takes itself too seriously.
