The folks at Playground Games offered another excellent driving experience with Forza Horizon 4. While the main Forza Motorsport series aims to simulate the international racing scene, Forza Horizon catapults players into a huge open world so they can drive at pleasure. While Forza Horizon 4 isn’t flawless, it does a lot to keep gamers engaged. It has everything Forza Horizon 3 had to offer and more.

Presentation

While Horizon 3 took players to roam the sunny wilds of Australia for the Horizon Festival, Horizon 4 takes pilots to the UK countryside for far more varied racing conditions. Whether you’re cruising through the forests or whizzing through Edinburgh, the game feels crisp and gorgeous. It’s already fun to drive around, but the in-game radio stations help by providing a modern and cheery soundtrack to drive on.

While the presentation is stronger than ever, the game’s real highlight is also its newest feature: the changing of the seasons and dynamic weather. Once a week, the game season changes to unlock new tracks and otherwise inaccessible events. Rain mists dirt roads, slopes freeze and the weather affects driving conditions as it would in real life. The physics of time is not new to the franchise; Horizon 4 simply places a special emphasis on them and how they can be used to create new racing events.
