Keep it simple

If it looks like Fortnite has a lot of moving parts, that’s because it does. You are rummaging, running and shooting, all while remaining in constant communication with your team.

Fortunately, Fortnite makes things easy whenever possible. Although you can find a variety of weapons and accessories, you can only carry up to five at a time. And while you can build almost anything you can imagine, you’re limited to just three types of building tiles.

This can seem frustrating at times to veteran players, but keeping it simple is one of the ways Fortnite tries to make the game more accessible to new players. And the actual gameplay is just as simple – the footage looks familiar to anyone who has ever played an FPS, and the ability to revive fallen but undead teammates is both intuitive and familiar.

Teamwork makes the dream work

Speaking of teams, this game is all about teamwork. You won’t spend much time trying to fight and survive alone – instead, you and the rest of the four-man squad have to work as a single unit.

As anyone who has ever played a multiplayer game can testify, this is easier said than done. If you’re playing with strangers, you’re just hoping people have their microphones on and are willing to use them. Plus, you hope they know enough about the game to shout out landmarks and familiar landing zones.

The best way to play Fortnite is the best way to play most multiplayer games: with your friends. And with cross-play compatibility between so many consoles, PCs, and even mobile devices, playing with friends is easier than ever.
