Samsung Display demonstrated a smartphone OLED panel that achieved peak brightness in excess of 2,000 nits at CES 2023. Samsung Display also scored a UDR luminance rating of 1,500 nits on its new panel. Samsung says the new UDR panel displays more realistic and richer colors that will be especially noticeable in outdoor use.
It remains to be seen which phone Samsung will debut with the new UDR smartphone display, though it’s very likely that it could be the next Galaxy S23 series. Samsung Display already supplies OLED panels for Apple whose iPhone 14 Pro series boasts up to 2,000 nits peak brightness for HDR content.
