The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 arrived yesterday and immediately went to pre-order. The new foldable flagship comes with One UI 4.1.1 out of the box and has many new features for optimal multitasking that have been developed “with partners,” said Samsung.

With all the focus on the new camera and design changes, one of its novelties has been overlooked. The Galaxy Z Fold4 is the first smartphone to officially have Android 12L.

Google initially introduced the L version in October 2021 and then reminded us of it six months later. L stands for large screens, which means foldable devices, tablets, and Chrome OS. It can be installed on any device, but it’s optimized for multitasking and the apps are remade to fit big screens.

Google’s apps come in two columns, which is easier to navigate on a square display, and productivity and social media apps are also aware when the device is folded so they change into their regular orientation.

The Android 12L now only comes on the Fold4, the clamshell Flip4 is better suited to run the normal Android flavor, despite the foldable panel.
